The outstanding monument of Ancient Russian literature describes an unfortunate raid of the Prince of Novgorod-Seversky Igor Svyatoslavich against the Polovtsians (1185). The manuscript of the song was discovered in the Saviour’s Transfiguration Monastery (Yaroslavl) by Count A.I. Musin-Pushkin.
