Weight-lifting as a form of weightlifting has appeared in Russia in the late ΧΙΧ century. Competitions are held in a weight-lifting with free weights weighing 16, 24 and 32 kg on the program standings: push two dumbbells with both hands, jerk the weights of one and the other hand, without a break for rest, or program of a long cycle: two push weights with two hands, plus a short descent weights.
International Federation of weight-lifting (IFESCCO) was established in 1992. The first European Championships in weightlifting sport took place in 1992, the first world championship in 1993, the first World Cup in 1994.
